As of February 8, 2026, the Prime Minister’s National Laptop Scheme (Phase-IV/V) has reached a critical stage where thousands of students are checking their final selection status. The process has been fully digitized, moving away from manual lists to a real-time CNIC-based tracking system.

Whether you applied recently or are waiting for the final merit list for the 2026 distribution cycle, here is the official, updated method to verify your status.

New Method: Step-by-Step Status Check Guide

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has launched a “Student Service Portal” that acts as a single window for tracking. Use the following steps to see if your application is Verified, Selected, or Rejected.

Step 1: Access the Official Tracking Portal

Go to the official PM Youth Program laptop portal: laptop.pmyp.gov.pk.

Note: Avoid third-party “merit list” blogs that ask for your data. Only use .gov.pk domains for security.

Step 2: Navigate to “Application Status”

On the homepage, look for the “Application Status” or “Search Merit List” tab.

Step 3: Enter Your Credentials

  1. Search Type: Select “CNIC”.
  2. CNIC Number: Enter your 13-digit CNIC without any dashes (e.g., 3520112345671).
  3. Captcha: Complete the security code check and click Submit.

Step 4: Understand Your Result

The system will display one of the following statuses:

  • Applied: Your application is successfully submitted but not yet reviewed.
  • Verified: Your university focal person and HEC have confirmed your academic data.
  • Selected: Congratulations! You are on the final merit list and will receive a laptop.
  • Rejected: You may have failed the merit criteria or already received a laptop in a previous phase.

The 2026 Selection Criteria: Why Statuses Change

Many students find their status stuck at “Applied” or “Pending.” This is usually because the 2026 phase uses a strict Merit-Based Quota System:

  1. Institutional Quota: Laptops are divided among public universities based on their enrollment strength.
  2. Academic Standing: * PhD/MS/MPhil: Preference is given to research students.
    • Undergraduate: Minimum CGPA of 2.80 (or 60% marks) is typically required.
  3. Physical Verification: If your status is “Verified,” it means your university’s Focal Person has cross-checked your transcripts. If it’s still pending, you should contact your university’s IT/Student Affairs office.

Essential Tips for 2026 Applicants

  • Check the “Search Focal Person” Tab: If your data is incorrect on the portal, find your university’s focal person via the official HEC website to get it rectified before the final merit list is locked.
  • SMS Alerts: HEC and the PM Youth Program will send official alerts from a dedicated shortcode (usually 8001 or PMYP). Do not provide sensitive info to random mobile numbers.
  • The “Double Benefit” Rule: If you have already received a laptop from the CM Punjab Honhar Laptop Scheme or a previous PM phase, your status will likely be marked as “Ineligible” to ensure a fair distribution to new students.
