Why the 2026 Scheme is Different
The 2026 E-Taxi program focuses on “Green Energy” to combat urban smog while providing high-income opportunities for the youth.
- Massive Subsidies: The government covers nearly half the vehicle cost, significantly reducing the financial burden.
- Zero Markup: Unlike traditional bank car financing, this loan is interest-free, with the government paying the markup to the Bank of Punjab.
- Women’s Empowerment: Out of the 100 individual taxis, 30 are reserved specifically for women, who also receive an additional 10% subsidy.
- Running Costs: Electric taxis are estimated to save up to 60% on fuel costs compared to traditional petrol/gas vehicles.
1. Eligibility Criteria
To be shortlisted in the computerized balloting, applicants must meet these benchmarks:
- Residency: Must be a permanent resident of Punjab with a valid CNIC and Domicile.
- Age Limit: 21 to 45 years (some categories allow up to 50 years).
- Education: Minimum qualification of Matriculation (10th grade) is required.
- Driving License: Must hold a valid LTV, HTV, or PSV driving license.
- Status: Preference is given to unemployed youth and those registered with ride-hailing apps like Uber, Careem, or inDrive.
2. Required Documents for Verification
If you have applied, ensure you have the following ready for the next phase of physical verification:
- Original CNIC and Domicile.
- Valid Driving License.
- Educational Certificates (Matric or higher).
- Proof of Income or Employment Status.
- Two passport-sized photographs.
3. Repayment & Installment Plan
The repayment structure is designed to be “Pay-as-you-Earn”:
- Grace Period: A 3-month grace period is provided after vehicle delivery, meaning you don’t pay installments until your business is up and running.
- Financing: Partnered with the Bank of Punjab (BOP), the scheme offers 60 monthly installments.
- Insurance: The government package includes vehicle insurance and GPS tracking to ensure driver and passenger safety.
4. How to Check Application Status
Since the registration deadline has passed, the portal (e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk) now allows applicants to track their progress:
- Login: Use your CNIC and the mobile number provided during registration.
- Tracking ID: Enter the ID received at the time of submission.
- Status Update: The portal will show if your application is “Pending Verification,” “Shortlisted for Balloting,” or “Ready for Bank Documentation.”
Conclusion
The Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2026 is a transformative project that turns drivers into owners. By integrating electric vehicles into the public transport system, the government is tackling both unemployment and environmental pollution simultaneously. If you missed the Phase 1 deadline, stay tuned for the Phase 2 announcement expected later in the year.
